Jagran correspondent, Greater Noida. The trend of people falling ill in Sector Alpha 2 of Greater Noida is not stopping. On Wednesday also, during investigation by the Health Department, four students were found ill in the same house. Sector residents have questioned the functioning of the officials, claiming that there are dangerous bacteria in the water.
In the investigation conducted by the Health Department last week on January 8, 40 people were found ill and on January 9, 70 people were found ill. After which the health department team had put the investigation on hold. People of the sector continuously supply contaminated water.
Along with this, people were complaining to the authority officials about their illness. After which on Thursday the authority team reached the sector to conduct survey. In a survey of about 26 houses, people were found suffering from illness in many houses.
Four students, Pranjal Tripathi, Piyush Tripathi, Abhinav Tripathi and Hariom Prashi, living on rent in house number 246 of I Block of Sector Alpha 2, were found ill. All four told the health department team that they were suffering from high fever and stomach pain. Students said that they use only the water supplied through pipeline from the authority for drinking and other daily activities.
Residents said the problem of contaminated water continues
Claiming that there is dangerous bacteria in the water, the residents of the sector have warned the authority officials of agitating if the system is not maintained. Also demanded to make the investigation report public when it comes. People say that the issue of contaminated water continues in the sector and the officials of the authority have calmed down by saying all is well.
Sector residents described the confirmation of bacteria in only one out of five samples taken by the Health Department as suspicious. Questioning the report of the Health Department, the residents of the sector said that such a large number of people fell ill and dangerous bacteria were found in only one sample, so are people falling ill by inhaling the air?
People allege that contaminated and smelly water is still being supplied to their homes. Residents say that the health department team is citing the presence of dangerous bacteria in only one sample, whereas people in the sector are continuously suffering from problems like fever, stomach ache, vomiting, diarrhea etc.
Delay in water report, authority accused of negligence
After the situation worsened, the authority took water samples from five houses in Sector Alpha 2 and sent them to Ghaziabad for testing, but even after several days, the test report has not come out. Water department officials are refusing to link the disease to water only, due to which resentment among the people is increasing.
RWA President Subhash Bhati alleged that instead of improving the system, the authority officials are trying to suppress the matter. Warned that if the report is not made public after the investigation report comes, then they will be forced to protest.
Survey of 26 houses was conducted. In which three people in one house were found suffering from fever along with diarrhea and vomiting. People in many other houses also reported falling ill. On Friday, a health camp will be organized in the sector and medicines will be distributed along with testing of people.
