Surajkund Fair Accident: Case Registered Against Vendor, ADC Will Investigate; All Cultural Programs Canceled

After the Surajkund Mela accident, the cultural presentations held at the main Chaupal and Chhoti Chaupal of the fair were cancelled.

Jagran correspondent, Faridabad. After the Surajkund Mela accident, the cultural presentations held at the main Chaupal and Chhoti Chaupal of the fair were cancelled. Every day, singing and dancing performances by artists from India and abroad continue at both the chaupals of the fair. In the evening, big artists perform at the Chaupal.

Singer Naveen Punia's performance was being held at Chhoti Chaupal on Saturday evening. When the accident happened, this presentation had already taken place, but the performance of standup comedian Amit Tandon and singer Shibani Kashyap was to be held at the main Chaupal. Both these programs were canceled after the accident. Also the entire fair complex was evacuated.

Normally the fair continues till 10 pm, but after the accident, people started leaving the fair at 7 pm and the craftsmen also left. Now it is not decided whether there will be a cultural presentation in the fair on Sunday or not. As per the schedule decided so far, the presentation of Gurdas Maan is to be held on Sunday evening.

Case filed against vendor

Late in the night, Haryana Tourism Minister Dr. Arvind Sharma reached the fair premises and took information about the accident. Later he reached the hospital to inquire about the well being of the injured. While talking to media persons, Dr. Arvind Sharma talked about the sacrifice of Police Inspector Jagdish Prasad and said that the accident is tragic, but the administration immediately started rescue operations, due to which the lives of other people were saved.

The minister said that a total of 12 people were injured, out of which eight are admitted in Supreme Hospital and four in civil hospital. The injured are out of danger as they were taken to the hospital on time and received prompt and proper treatment. He said that a special committee used to inspect the swings every day, the inspection was also done on Saturday, but this accident happened.

A committee headed by the ADC will investigate the accident. The Tourism Minister said that for the time being, a case will be registered against the swing vendor. On whether the fair will continue further, the Tourism Minister said that it will be decided later.
