Bangladesh wants to play World Cup.

Lahore, PTI. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which had threatened to withdraw from the tournament after Bangladesh cricket team's exit, reversed its words within 24 hours and announced the team for the T-20 World Cup on Sunday. After refusing to come to India, the International Cricket Council (ICC) had announced the inclusion of Scotland in the World Cup in place of Bangladesh. After which PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi had said that we stand strongly with Bangladesh and the Pakistan government will decide on our playing in the World Cup, but after the announcement of the team, the speculations about it not playing in the tournament also came to an end.

Pakistan will play all its matches in Sri Lanka. The team was announced at a press conference held at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Sunday, in which PCB High Performance Director and selection committee member Aaqib Javed, captain Salman Ali Aga and coach Mike Hesson were present. However, Javed said that the job of the selection committee is to choose the team and the decision to play in the tournament will be taken by the PCB and the government.

Pakistan have been placed in Group A and will start their campaign against Netherlands on February 7 in Colombo. The much-awaited match between India and Pakistan will be played in Colombo on February 15, as part of the tripartite agreement reached last year to play the match at a neutral venue. Pakistan was the only country to support the BCB at the ICC meeting and the PCB had said that if Bangladesh was excluded then it could also consider withdrawing from the tournament, but this did not happen.

Government did not approve

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Sunday clarified that it was ready to play in the T20 World Cup, but due to lack of approval from the Bangladesh government, the team will not be able to participate in the tournament. BCB said that government permission is mandatory for foreign tours and the board is bound by the government decision.

BCB director Abdur Razzaq said, we always wanted to play, but it is the government's decision and we have to follow it. This rule applies not just to the World Cup, but to every foreign tour. BCB Media Committee Chairman Amjad Hussain said that BCB has accepted the ICC's decision.

Hussain said that ICC had made it clear to us that there will be no change in the existing schedule and we will have to play in India only. The very next day, a cabinet meeting of the Bangladesh government was held, in which it was decided that if there is no change in the schedule, the team will not play the World Cup in India.
