What to do and what not to do within the polling station and within 100 meters.

State Bureau, Ranchi. The State Election Commission has imposed strict rules to ensure fairness of polling stations and peaceful voting in the ongoing municipal elections in Jharkhand today (23 February 2026).

There is a complete ban on certain activities within the polling station and its 100 meter radius, so that voters can exercise their franchise without any pressure or hindrance.

There will be a ban on these (within 100 meters of the polling station)

These restrictions are in place under the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) of the State Election Commission and the Election Commission of India.

Violation may lead to action against the person concerned under electoral law, which may include fine or other penalties.

Only these are allowed entry inside the polling station

- Public servants deployed in election work

- District Election Officer or person authorized by the Election Officer

-Candidates or their election agents

Voter with baby in lap

- A blind or physically disabled voter who cannot walk without assistance must be accompanied by a supporting person.

- Personnel employed for identity verification of voters and voters

Note: Carrying mobile phones, cameras or recording devices inside the polling station is prohibited. Bags for collecting phones are provided at many booths. It is also mandatory to park vehicles 100 meters away.

Why is 100 meter radius important?

As per the Model Code of Conduct of ECI, canvassing, campaigning or any election influencing activity is strictly prohibited within 100 meters of the polling station.

This gives voters a chance to vote freely and without fear.

Jharkhand today has 4,300+ booths in 48 civic bodies, of which 896 are hyper-sensitive and 2,445 are sensitive. This rule is strictly enforced on them.

These rules are to make the voting process transparent and fair. Voters are appealed to follow the rules and vote fearlessly.
