Bangladesh's U-turn regarding T20 World Cup controversy
Sports Desk, New Delhi. Bangladesh U turn on Boycott T20 World Cup: A new controversy has emerged regarding Bangladesh cricket amid the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. After first accusing the players and the board of boycotting the tournament, now the Bangladesh government has taken a U-turn on its statement and given clarification.
Bangladesh's U-turn after allegations against players
In fact, Bangladesh's sports advisor Asif Najrul (Asif Najrul on Bangladesh T20 World Cup Boycott) had said in his initial comment that the decision of not participating in the upcoming T20 World Cup has been taken by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the players. This statement created both confusion and criticism, because earlier the government had said that this decision was taken at the state level based on security reasons.
Cricbuzz quoted Nazrul as saying that there is no question of regret over not playing in the World Cup. This decision was taken by BCB and players for the safety of the country's cricket, public safety and national dignity. Before this, Nazrul had said on January 22 that I feel that we did not get justice from the ICC. Whether we will play in the World Cup or not is entirely the government's decision.
According to Nazrul, in the beginning of January itself, the government had decided not to send the team to India keeping in mind security concerns. He also said that the board and players accepted the decision without protest, despite the risk of financial loss, missed matches and possible sanctions.
During this, he praised the players and officials for supporting this step in the interest of national security and dignity and said that the main credit goes to them for sticking to the decision. The statement came after a BCB event, where a check of 20 million Bangladesh Taka was handed over to Dhaka Vishwavidyalaya for the development of the playground.
