Earthquake hits Taiwan again.
Digital Desk, New Delhi. A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck late Saturday about 32 km (20 miles) off Taiwan's northeastern coastal city of Yilan. The weather department gave this information.
The earthquake shook buildings in the capital, Taipei, and had a depth of 73 kilometers (45 miles), the statement said. The National Fire Agency said the damage was being assessed.
Earthquake occurred for the second time in a week
It was the second major earthquake to hit the island this week, following a 6.0-magnitude earthquake on Wednesday. Taiwan is located near the junction of two tectonic plates and is prone to earthquakes.
Taiwan was shaken by earthquakes even before
A 2016 earthquake in southern Taiwan killed more than 100 people, while a magnitude 7.3 earthquake in 1999 killed more than 2,000 people.
