Digital Desk, New Delhi. Bangladesh National Party Chief Tariq Rahman was sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Bangladesh on Tuesday. The government will include 25 cabinet ministers and 24 ministers of state. A Hindu minister is also included in these. The party won more than 151 seats in the 300-member parliament, while the BNP-led alliance won 212 seats.
President Mohammad Shahabuddin administered the oath
Bangladesh President Mohammad Shahabuddin administered the oath of office to Rahman at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhavan in Dhaka. Earlier, the BNP Parliamentary Party held a meeting in the Parliament Building and Rehman was elected as its Parliamentary Leader.
Rehman, son of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, led the BNP to a landslide victory in the February 12 general elections after a 17-year exile.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also attended the event on the Indian side, a sign of New Delhi's engagement with the new government after strained relations following Hasina's ouster.
Who is Tariq Rehman?
Tariq Rahman will be the Prime Minister of Bangladesh for five years, son of former PM Khaleda Zia and former President Ziaur Rahman. He is also the first male Prime Minister of Bangladesh in 35 years.
His swearing-in is a historic moment as he becomes the first elected male Prime Minister after decades of politics under Sheikh Hasina and her mother Khaleda Zia, a period often referred to as the Battle of the Begums.
