Dharamveer Singh Malhar, Tarn Taran. Girl Navroop Kaur (26) was shot dead on Saturday night on Jammu-Kashmir Rajasthan National Highway. As soon as information about the incident was received, DSP Atul Soni, Jagjit Singh and the police party reached the spot and started investigating the matter. A case of murder has been registered in this regard at Sadar Tarn Taran police station.

Mangal Singh, resident of Banwalipur village of Halka Patti assembly constituency, told that his elder daughter Navroop Kaur used to work at a salon in Tarn Taran city. Arjun Singh, son of Kashmir Singh, belonging to the same village, used to put pressure on Navroop Kaur to marry her. Whereas Arjun Singh does not do any work. Navroop Kaur had clearly refused to get married to Arjun Singh.

Mangal Singh told that Arjun Singh had threatened to kill his daughter several times, for which the Panchayat was held twice but the accused did not desist from his actions. On Saturday, Navroop Kaur left the salon at 5 pm as usual. At around 5.30, Navroop Kaur got off the bus at village Rasoolpur on the Jammu Kashmir Rajasthan National Highway.

She was currently waiting for a tempo to go to her village Banawalipur. In the meantime, Arjun Singh along with his companion came riding on a bike, who opened fire on Navroop Kaur at the bus stand itself.

Navroop Kaur fell on the road drenched in blood after being hit by two bullets, she was immediately brought to the Civil Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. SSP Surinder Laba said that the post-mortem process is being conducted after taking possession of Navroop Kaur's body. Based on the statements of the deceased's father Mangal Singh, a case has been registered against Arjan Singh and his partner.
