Digital Desk, New Delhi. The Education Ministry said the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has formed a team to develop artificial intelligence (AI) curriculum and books for classes 11 and 12.
According to sources, in response to a question in the Lok Sabha, the Education Ministry said that NCERT has prepared a project that includes the use of AI tools on animation and games in the vocational education textbook for class 6th.
The Education Ministry said, "In view of the National Education Policy 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023, NCERT has constituted a team with the aim of developing AI curriculum and textbooks for classes 11 and 12." NCERT has prepared a project on Animation and Games in Vocational Education textbook for Class 6 which involves the use of AI tools.'
The Ministry of Education has repeatedly reaffirmed its commitment to advance Artificial Intelligence and Computational Thinking (AI and CT) as essential components of the future education system. The government has said that the curriculum on AI will be started in all schools from class three from the academic session 2026-27 in line with the National Education Policy 2020 and NCF SE 2023.
According to official sources, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has also drafted AI and Computational Thinking curriculum for students of classes 3 to 12. It aims to introduce fundamental AI concepts in lower classes and make Advanced Computational Thinking and AI a compulsory subject for classes nine and ten.
It is noteworthy that the Central Government has recently launched 'Skilling for AI Readiness', which is a national initiative in line with the National Education Policy 2020, National Program on AI (NPAI) Skilling Framework and the objectives of digital empowerment and inclusive development of Vikas India 2047. 'Skilling for AI Readiness' aims to inculcate AI awareness and core competencies among school students (Class 6-12) and build AI literacy among teachers.
