Tension increased again in Nepal.
Digital Desk, New Delhi. Security has been increased in Nepal's Madhes province after religious tension broke out in Birgunj and Janakpur over TikTok video. People have been appealed to maintain social harmony.
Tension flared up when a dispute broke out between two groups in Dhanusha's Kamla municipality over religiously targeted comments on TikTok. Actually, two youths named Haider Ansari and Amanat Ansari uploaded a video in Janakpur, Dhanusha. Local people described the video as hurting religious sentiments and handed the youth over to the police.
Tension increased after vandalism in the mosque
Tension increased further after the vandalism of a mosque in Ward-6 of Kamla Municipality. In protest, the protesters took out rallies in Birgunj and surrounding areas, burnt tires and raised slogans. Later these demonstrations turned violent. The police had to fire tear gas shells. Three people have been detained for posting the video and being involved in the vandalism. Seven policemen suffered minor injuries.
What did the police administration say?
"Internet media accounts like Facebook, TikTok and Instagram are being kept under strict vigil to identify persons involved in spreading false rumors that incite social, religious or cultural hatred, affect national integration or harm the social reputation of communities," the district administration said.
