100 acres of land identified in Punpun, acquisition pending
Digital Desk, Patna. The Sports City which was announced with great fanfare in the last budget of Bihar, seems to be far away from the ground reality even after 11 months. Till now only land has been identified for this mega project proposed in Punpun area of the capital. Important decisions related to construction, design and investment are still stuck in the process.
Budget announcement, delay in work
In the budget presented on March 3, 2025, it was announced to build the state's first sports city. But by the time we reach February 2026, the picture is that neither the construction has started nor the final DPR has been prepared. The government is now said to be preparing to take it to the next stage.

Visit team formed, will give report by March
The government has now constituted a visit team to speed up the project. This team will visit Bengaluru, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Odisha, Patiala and some other states to study the sports cities and sports infrastructure there. The team will submit its report by March, after which the planning will be finalized.
One campus, preparation for 18–20 games
Cost of around Rs 2000 crore, construction on PPP model
DPR till April, then real work will start
Construction from 2027, target to complete in three years
The question is the same – when will the announcement become reality?
There is no dearth of sporting talent in the state, but lack of modern facilities has always been a major challenge. In such a situation, the question is whether Sports City will also remain confined to files like many previous schemes or will it really change the future of the players of Bihar?
