State Bureau, New Delhi. Donors dealing with homelessness are becoming a problem for the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUCIB). DUCIB believes that despite donations, the homeless people sleeping on the streets are not ready to go to night shelters. DUCIB will now put up banner hoardings at various places along with night shelters in Delhi.
Through which people will be made aware that people should go to night shelters and donate to the homeless, because of their donations the homeless sleeping on the streets are not ready to go to night shelters.
DUSIB arranges night shelters in winter
In Delhi, especially during winter season, DUCIB makes additional arrangements for night shelters for the homeless. Along with providing accommodation to the homeless, they are also being provided morning tea and afternoon meal along with biscuits. The government is also keeping an eye on ensuring that they get full facilities. The government has become more alert after the fire in the night shelter in Vasant Kunj.
Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood is conducting surprise inspections at various night shelters and taking stock of the arrangements there. Clear instructions have also been given to DUSIB that if negligence is found, action will be taken not only against the night shelter operators but also against the officials.
By convincing people, they take them to night shelters.
Since last November 15, around 15 vans are being run by DUSIB to bring the homeless people sleeping on the streets to the night shelters. They take the homeless people sleeping on the streets to the night shelters from evening till night in different areas.
According to officials of DHUSB, two types of problems are being faced in this work. One or two people whom he takes to night shelters end up on the streets again. Many people, even after a lot of persuasion, do not cooperate with the DUSIB teams and refuse to go there by road.
Hoardings will be put up soon
Officials say that the reason behind this is also people's donation to those sleeping on the streets. Officials said that soon hoardings and banners are going to be installed at various places in Delhi. Banners will also be put up outside these night shelters. On which it will be written that instead of donating to those sleeping on the streets, they should donate to night shelters and their donations will be given to the homeless in a transparent manner.
Dusib believes that if people stop donating, the homeless will be easily brought into night shelters, and the lives of those sleeping in the open on the streets in the cold will be saved.
