State Bureau, New Delhi. The condition of Zakhira flyover, one of the nearly 50 years old and important flyovers of Delhi, will improve. Delhi government has sanctioned an amount of Rs 20 crore for this. There was a demand for improving the condition of this flyover for a long time. But the work could not start due to non-availability of budget by the previous government.
According to PWD, Zakhira flyover is a very old flyover of Delhi. Zakhira flyover was built around the same time as Shadipur flyover was built. Due to the age of the flyovers, there are problems with their expansion joints and thermoplastic bearings, which have to be replaced.
The upper surface of the flyover will be rebuilt
Expansion joints are made to fill the gap left by the joints of flyovers to prevent cracks in the bridge due to changes in temperature and vibration caused by passing vehicles. It is filled with steel and rubber between concrete.
It is used to maintain the structure of the bridge. Since the bridge is very old, now a plan has been made to replace it. The upper surface of the flyover will also be rebuilt. Repairs to the flyover may take a long time. Therefore, approval has also been sought from the traffic police for this.
The Zakhira flyover provides commuters access to areas like Rohtak Road, Ashok Vihar, Indralok, Patel Nagar, Dayabasti, and other parts of Delhi such as the Main Ring Road and Old Delhi. It is an important link on the New Rohtak Road.
