Only 12 days after this American attack, Venezuela has released the jailed American citizens. The Trump administration has welcomed this decision of Venezuela.
Venezuela releases American citizens
The US government reported on Tuesday January 13 that several US citizens detained in Venezuela have been released. The State Department said, 'We welcome the release of American citizens detained in Venezuela. This is an important step in the right direction by the interim officials.
Venezuela's National Assembly head Jorge Rodriguez made a big announcement after the US attack. Rodriguez had said, 'A significant number of Venezuelans and other foreign nationals imprisoned in the country will be released in an effort to establish peace after the military operation that removed Maduro from power.
Venezuelan human rights group Forum Penal said as of Tuesday evening that 56 prisoners detained for political reasons had been released. The group criticized the government's lack of transparency regarding the release. The Venezuelan government rejected this figure of the organization and on Tuesday afternoon said the number of these prisoners was 400.
