In the absence of sunshine, the cold westerly wind is causing the maximum temperature to drop, but due to the presence of fog, the minimum temperature is not falling. Due to the difference of only three degrees Celsius between the maximum and minimum temperatures, there is no respite from the cold both during the day and night.
It was freezing cold during the day as well as at night. According to meteorologist Kailash Pandey, this is happening as a result of the activity of western disturbance. Another western disturbance is becoming active, due to which the process of severe cold will continue for the next three-four days. The entire eastern Uttar Pradesh including Gorakhpur will remain under the influence of fog.
The meteorologist said that at this time westerly wind is blowing in the upper atmosphere. Because of the active Western Disturbance, there is heavy snowfall in the mountains. In such a situation, the icy cold of the mountains along with the west wind is reaching eastern Uttar Pradesh. Due to moist easterly air in the lower atmosphere, the fog is not reducing. The combination of both the atmospheric conditions is causing severe cold.
The maximum temperature recorded on Monday was 14.2 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was 11 degrees Celsius. In such a situation, the effect of cold always remained the same. Due to the humidity percentage being 84 to 87 percent, the cold was felt more than the record temperature. According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature will remain around 15 degrees Celsius for the next three-four days. The minimum temperature will also not exceed 10 degrees Celsius. Due to the humidity percentage being around 90, the cold will be felt more than the record temperature.
