Jagran correspondent, New Delhi. Before Republic Day, Delhi Police has arrested about three thousand criminals by raiding 2,348 places simultaneously under 'Operation Kavach-12.0' in the capital.
A total of 1,059 police teams participated
Although, the police takes action against miscreants under 'Operation Kavach' every few days, but this time amid intelligence alert that terrorist organizations are planning to create trouble on Republic Day, Delhi Police has taken swift action by raiding the hideouts of anti-social elements. A total of 1,059 police teams from all 15 district units, crime branch and special cell took part in the operation which started at 6 pm on January 23 and continued till 6 pm on January 24.
1,682 persons were arrested
Under the operation, 59 criminals involved in drug smuggling were arrested in 55 cases and 30.750 kg of ganja and 31.21 grams of heroin were recovered. Additionally, 231 cases were registered under the Delhi Excise Act, in which 238 persons were arrested, while 1,682 persons were arrested under Section 40A and B of the Delhi Excise Act.
117 arrested under Arms Act
At the same time, 117 persons were arrested in 115 cases under the Arms Act and two pistols, 16 pistols, 25 cartridges, 98 knives, 17 mobiles and one licensed banned weapon were recovered from them. 261 persons were arrested in 149 cases of Gambling Act with Rs 3.51 lakh cash recovered.
33 stolen vehicles recovered from 21 vehicle thieves
On the other hand, 31 declared criminals and 21 vehicle thieves were arrested with the recovery of 33 stolen vehicles. 2,276 vehicles were also seized under Section 66 DP Act. Further as part of preventive action, 703 persons were arrested under section 126/170 BNSS to prevent them from committing crimes. 4,082 persons were taken into preventive custody. 25,300 persons were detained under 65 DP Acts.
4,714 booked under COTPA
Action was also initiated against those violating the rules under sections 128, 129, 126/169 BNSS and 100 DP Act (Delhi Police Act). The activities of 4,545 notorious criminals were also monitored while 4,714 were prosecuted under COTPA.
