Digital Desk, New Delhi. India Meteorological Department has once again warned of major changes in the weather today. While the cold is weakening in North India and the temperature is going to rise by 2-4 degrees, there is a possibility of heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning in South India due to the impact of the low pressure system. A warning of heavy rainfall has been issued mainly over South Tamil Nadu and South Kerala on 22 February.

It will rain in these states

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain and thundershowers in many parts of the country between February 22 and 24, 2026. The states where there is a possibility of rain include Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Telangana. There is a possibility of rain in some districts of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh on 22 and 23 February. At the same time, there is a possibility of rain in Uttarakhand from 22 February to 24 February.

Heavy rain in South India

Due to the low pressure area over south-west Bay of Bengal, heavy rains are likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu (southern part), Kerala and Mahe on 21-22 February. There may be thunderstorms, lightning and strong wind gusts of 30-40 km/hr.

Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong winds over Coastal and North Interior Karnataka from 22-24 February. Similar weather over South Interior Karnataka from 21-24 February.

Light rain/snow in North India

Light rain or snowfall at isolated places in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh on 22-23 February. Light to moderate rain and thundershowers in Uttarakhand from 22-24 February. Warning of rain and thunderstorm in Chhattisgarh and Odisha on 23-24 February. Thunderstorm possible in Vidarbha on 23 February.

The maximum temperature will increase by 2-4 degrees in the next 7 days. In states like Rajasthan and UP, the mercury can reach 35-37 degrees. Weather will remain dry in Delhi-NCR, but AQI in 'poor' category (around 203). Minimum temperature 12-15 degrees, rising to maximum. There is no possibility of rain in UP, the temperature can remain up to 29 degrees.
