State Bureau, Lucknow. In the new year, three big decisions in the electricity sector will determine the changes in this sector. In the year 2026, a decision is to be taken on privatization of Purvanchal and Dakshinanchal Electricity Distribution Corporations, release of new cast data book and Adani Power's Fuel Gas Desulphurization (FGD) based 1600 MW power generation unit in Mirzapur district.

In these three cases, a decision is to be taken soon from the Electricity Regulatory Commission. After the decision on the new cast data book, it will be decided what will be the rates of materials related to electricity connection. Whether Purvanchal and Dakshinanchal electricity distribution corporations will be privatized or not will also be decided by the Commission.

Talks were held on three important issues

Along with this, the Commission also has to take a decision on setting up a 1600 MW capacity power plant of Adani Power in Mirzapur. FGD is a technique of pollution control. State Electricity Consumer Council President Awadhesh Verma has said that in the winter session of the Legislature, Energy Minister AK Sharma had presented his views on these three important issues.

It is clear from this that the new year will bring big changes in the energy sector. Regarding smart prepaid meters, the minister had said that if the Regulatory Commission decides more or less the rates of smart prepaid meters for new connections, then the difference in the electricity bills of the consumers will be adjusted accordingly.

Once the decision is taken, the cost of single phase smart prepaid meter which is currently being charged at Rs 6016, is likely to be reduced to Rs 2800. He had also said that the government has not yet taken any decision on privatization of power companies in the state. A decision on this also has to be taken from the Regulatory Commission.
