State Bureau, Dehradun. Now another new activity can start in Tehri Lake, which is rapidly making its mark as a tourist destination in Uttarakhand.
Steps are being taken towards operating the much awaited seaplane here. Sky Hawk, the company operating the air service, has shown interest in it.
In accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Council (UCADA) has provided information regarding landing of seaplanes here. There is a possibility of its trial run here soon.
The effort to land the seaplane in Tehri Lake has been going on for almost seven years. The Airport Authority of India has already included Tehri Lake among the 17 water aerodromes in the country.
In fact, there is immense potential for adventure tourism in the lakes and rivers of the state. Tehri Lake is also emerging as a major tourist destination.
Various adventure activities related to water sports are currently being conducted here. In the year 2019, an agreement was signed between the state government and the airport authority to build a water aerodrome here, but this exercise did not come to fruition.
UCADA has marked the site of the water aerodrome here. Work has also been done on Inland Water Vessel Policy for its safety standards.
A proposal to build a seaplane circuit on five lakes here has also been sent to the Centre. However, now something seems to be on the way after the air operating company has expressed its desire in this regard.
CEO UCADA Ashish Chauhan says that the Central Government has asked for some information in this regard, which has been provided. He expressed hope that the trial run could start here soon.
What is a sea plane?
Sea plane is a special type of airplane, which does not require a runway to take off. This plane can take off and land from water. Apart from tourism activities, this plane is also used for rescue operations.
