There Will Be A Big Change In The Security System Of RIMS Wards, Preparations For Deployment Of Private Security Personnel<br />

Number of guards will increase in every ward of RIMS

Jagran correspondent, Ranchi. After the incidents of fighting and uproar in Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in recent times, the management has started serious initiatives regarding the security arrangements of the wards. To ensure the safety of patients and health workers, the number of security personnel in the wards will now be increased and CCTV cameras will be installed at all major entrances. Necessary changes will be made after re-evaluating the entire security system.

Currently, there are more than 35 departments operating in RIMS, where on an average more than 2200 patients are admitted. Despite this, the security of the wards is still mainly dependent on the Home Guard soldiers, with which the doctors and staff are not satisfied. The management believes that due to the weakness of the security system, incidents of altercation, uproar and fighting occur in the wards every day.

Two days ago, a scuffle broke out between a patient's relative and a nurse at night, after which the nurses stopped work. During this period, the condition of many patients became critical and emergency services were also affected for hours. After the incident, pressure increased on the management to strengthen security arrangements.

Monitoring mechanism is being strengthened

To deal with these problems, RIMS management is now moving towards deployment of private security personnel in all the wards. Tender has been issued for this. Although this tender was floated several months ago, the selection process has not been completed yet. The management has indicated that the process will be completed soon and the security arrangements will be handed over to a private agency. RIMS Superintendent Hirendra Birua said that in view of the kind of incidents that are coming to light, changes in the security system have become necessary. Security personnel will have to be more alert and active. For this, the monitoring system is also being strengthened.

Most crowded in neurosurgery ward

Here, questions are being raised regarding security arrangements in high pressure departments like neurosurgery ward. Recently, during the inspection, RIMS Director had reprimanded a guard who was busy in mobile phone. Head of the department, Dr. Anand Prakash, says that the Home Guard personnel do not appear to be fully capable of this responsibility, better monitoring is possible only by the deployment of private security personnel.

At the same time, acute shortage of nurses is also a major reason for stress. At present only one-third of the nurses are employed as compared to the vacant posts, resulting in a burden of more than 100 patients on one nurse. Due to whatever reason, due to non-availability of medicines and treatment on time, there are arguments with the relatives of the patients.

The management has said that 200 nurses will be reinstated through outsource and vacancies will be removed soon for regular reinstatement on 144 posts. The management says that by strengthening both security and human resources, the RIMS system will be brought back on track.
