State Bureau, Kolkata. Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Friday condemned the treatment of party MPs during a protest outside the Home Ministry office in Delhi against the ED raids, calling it shameful, unacceptable and an attack on democratic rights.

He said that India is a democracy, BJP does not have personal property. The Chief Minister emphasized that democracy does not run on the ‘convenience or comfort of those in power’. He accused BJP of adopting dual policy.
Called it an attack on democratic rights and shameful
He claimed that while its leaders expect red carpets and special facilities during protests, opposition MPs are dragged, detained and humiliated for raising their voices.
Mamta said that there should be mutual respect between institutions and political people. The Chief Minister said that you respect us, we respect you.
He said attempts to insult elected representatives would be responded to with 'tolerance, dissent and democratic ethics'.
The Chief Minister said that no government, no party and no Home Minister can decide who deserves respect in a democracy.
