Toll on Purvanchal Expressway

Jagran Correspondent, Lucknow: The company collecting toll on Purvanchal Expressway signed a contract of Rs 285 crore with Uttar Pradesh Industrial Development Authority on a stamp of only Rs 100. Now the administration has issued a notice to the company directing it to deposit stamp duty of Rs 23 crore.

According to the Stamp and Registration Department, the company had to deposit four percent of the total contract as stamp duty. A case has also been filed in the Collectorate in this regard. According to Assistant Commissioner Stamp II Ramesh Kumar, in the contract signed between toll collecting company Inderdeep Construction Company and Uttar Pradesh Industrial Development Authority for two years from 2024 to 2026, stamp duty of only Rs 100 was deposited. There is a provision to pay four percent stamp duty of the total contract in urban areas and two percent outside the municipal limits.

Last September, the Registration Department had expressed apprehension of theft of crores of stamp duty in the contracts of railways, toll and liquor shops. In this regard, on behalf of AIG Stamp Ramesh Kumar Keer, a letter was written to the Railways, Toll Plaza and District Excise Officer asking that no information is being given about stamp duty in the contracts being made in your contracts, stands and shops, due to which the government is incurring a loss of crores.

The Registration Department had sought reports of contracts signed in the last four years, but no cognizance was taken of any department's notice. The Assistant Commissioner says that the process for recovery from other departments will also be expedited.
