The bridge near Kuthal Gate was damaged due to heavy rains in the last monsoon season. Awakening
Jagran correspondent, Dehradun. There are about two months left for the start of the tourist season, but no significant progress is visible in making the main road of Mussoorie easier. In such a situation, lakhs of tourists from India and abroad coming to Mussoorie may have to face heavy traffic jams. Because, during the monsoon season, the bridge near Kuthal Gate was damaged on the night of 15 September 2025 and vehicles are still being operated from here through the Bailey Bridge. This stretch is quite narrow and when the pressure of vehicles increases, there is heavy traffic jam.
To ease the way for the tourists coming to Mussoorie, PWD will build a new bridge in place of Bailey Bridge at a cost of about Rs 09 crore. But, its DPR is pending with the government for about two months. Until the government order and financial approval for the construction of the bridge is not issued, steps will not be taken in the direction of tender.
In such a situation, even if the government order is issued before the end of the financial year on March 31, the tender process will take one month. Due to which tourists will have to face traffic jams in this tourist season. Rajesh Kumar, Executive Engineer, PWD Provincial Division, says that if the government order is issued soon, then the tender process will be completed immediately and construction will be started on the ground. Monsoon season will increase the double challenge. Not only will the tourist season increase the challenge on the Mussoorie route, but the situation can become more critical during the monsoon season. The treatment of landslide zone located in Galogi Dhar area on Mussoorie road is also still pending. Because the treatment is moving, this part is also quite narrow. At the same time, there will be a danger of stones falling from the hill during heavy rains in this entire area. The way for widening of the alternative route of Mussoorie is open. The Public Works Department will widen the alternative route of Mussoorie, Lambidhar Kimadi (length 23 km). So that in case of increased vehicular pressure on the main road, tourists can travel through this route. Its DPR is also pending with the government. Due to which the tender for widening work was postponed from Lonvi provincial section.
Now after getting the approval of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on this project worth Rs 14 crore, the way has been opened for getting the government order soon. However, due to initial delays the widening work will not be completed till this tourist season. According to the PWD plan, this road is to be widened from single lane to one and a half lane. This width is being considered sufficient for the alternative route.

Widening is necessary before the completion of Paonta Sahib Highway Widening Project. Presently the widening of Paonta Sahib Highway is in the final stage. After the complete commencement of the project, the traffic pressure from Paonta Sahib side to Mussoorie will also increase. On the other hand, Delhi Dehradun Expressway is also about to start. In such a situation, if the widening of Langidhar Kimadi Road is not done soon, there will not be much pressure on the main road leading to Mussoorie. Whose condition is already critical. Alternative route from Sahasradhara side also, condition is bad. Another alternative route to Mussoorie is also from Sahasradhara side. Which is found near Mussoorie via Karligad and Sarona. However, the condition of this route also remains bad.
