Ahead of New Year's Eve celebrations, the traffic police conducted special checking drives at various places across Delhi on the night of December 27 to take action against drunken driving. To ensure road safety and prevent accidents due to drunk driving, the traffic police has intensified action across Delhi.
Under the special integrated checking conducted at multiple locations across Delhi, action was taken against violations related to drunk driving and dangerous driving (86 challans), without helmet (2194 challans), triple riding (266 challans), wrong side driving (1941 challans) and tinted glass (45 challans). During checking, 226 challans were issued for drunken driving in different parts of Delhi. With the help of cameras, 13833 e-challans for over speeding and 5394 e-challans for red light jumping were issued.
Additional Police Commissioner Traffic Monica Bhardwaj says that this special drive is part of the traffic police's comprehensive preparation plan for New Year's Eve. The number of traffic police will increase further on the night of 31st December. That night, senior officers themselves will take to the streets to monitor the enforcement activities and ensure deployment of additional forces at sensitive places, party hotspots, main intersections and roads.
Additional traffic personnel will be deployed across Delhi on New Year's Eve. Integrated checking points will be made at many places. Breath analyzer and modern enforcement equipment will be used. Continuous night patrolling and monitoring will be done through the traffic control room.
Delhi Traffic Police made this appeal
Delhi Traffic Police has appealed to the people to avoid drunk driving, follow traffic rules and cooperate with the police personnel on duty. Strict legal action will be taken against those found driving under the influence of alcohol.
People have also been appealed to use public transport, taxis or designated drivers while attending New Year celebrations. The traffic police is committed to ensure safe, smooth and accident-free traffic movement during the festive season.
