A symbolic picture has been placed in it.

Keshav Kumar, Muzaffarpur. The problems of the patients coming to SKMCH with the hope of treatment are not showing any signs of diminishing. The situation is such that patients are being given a long waiting period of one to two months for the operation of serious diseases like stones, hernia and hip fracture.

As soon as the winter is over, there is such a huge crowd of patients in the hospital that the doctors are feeling exhausted. According to the hospital administration, hundreds of patients had postponed their surgeries in the past months due to severe cold. Now as soon as the weather becomes normal, thousands of patients are reaching the OPD of the hospital every day. There are long queues here for operations for kidney stones, gall bladder, uterus and hernia.

In the last few days, twenty patients of kidney stone, thirteen of gall bladder, twenty two of uterus and nine of hernia have come for treatment. Doctors have asked all the patients to undergo blood test, ultrasound and X-ray after first aid. However, meanwhile, the patient has been seen asking the doctor for the date of operation.

The doctors are telling them to wait for a month or two after the test. Here, according to doctor Dr. Ajit Kumar, the patients who had earlier come for treatment in OPD are being admitted for operation. It may take more than two weeks for all of them to operate.

Depending on the situation of new patients, it may wait for now. However, Dr. Ajit says that a date is being given for major operation of the situation. Patients with critical condition are being operated by tagging them with normal OT patients. The bone department is said to be in the worst condition. It is difficult for a patient admitted here for six months to undergo operation.

Most of the patients in Haddi Indoor Ward are admitted for more than a month. Even in cases like hip fractures, where immediate surgery is required, delay in operation increases the risk of complications for patients. Here, Deputy Superintendent Dr. Satish Kumar Singh says that the crowd of patients has increased these days.

Before operation, patients are thoroughly examined. Recruitment is done on the basis of investigation report. After this, when the number comes, the operation has to be done by a team led by the in-charge of the unit in which the person is admitted.

Seeing the crowd, patients have to wait for a while. He told that here generally surgeries like hernia, appendix, fracture in bone department, caesarean, hysterectomy in gynecology department, cataract in ophthalmology department, tonsil in ENT department, pedia surgery and neurosurgery are being done here.

The operation is getting stuck in the rotation of the unit.

In SKMCH the division of operations is unit wise. The timing of the team of doctors and operation theater is fixed according to the unit assigned in the hospital. Due to limited resources and shortage of doctors, only a few operations are being conducted in a day. In such a situation, the patients who are coming for admission today are being given the date of last February or March.
