Preparation to implement Uniform Civil Code (symbolic picture)
State Bureau, Bhopal. The stir regarding Uniform Civil Code (UCC) has once again intensified in Madhya Pradesh. The state government is preparing to conduct an in-depth study of the UCC law applicable in Uttarakhand. If all preparations are completed on time, a bill related to UCC can be introduced in some assembly session of 2026.
According to sources, the government's approach is to take suggestions from various sections of the society rather than directly implementing the law. After considering these suggestions, they will be made a part of the bill, so that the law can be taken forward with broad consensus.
New momentum gained from Sangh chief's statement
Recently, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's Sarsanghchalak Dr. Mohan Bhagwat, in response to a question, had described UCC as a "good idea". He also said that progress can be made in this direction by taking all parties into confidence. After his statement, the discussions regarding UCC in Madhya Pradesh have gained a new edge.
Initiatives have already been taken
This is not the first attempt regarding UCC in Madhya Pradesh. In December 2022, the then Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had announced to form an expert committee to implement UCC. However, this process could not proceed further due to the assembly elections coming a few months later.
