Former JNU researcher Umar Khalid surrendered in Tihar Jail.

Jagran correspondent, New Delhi. After the expiry of the interim bail granted by the Court of Additional Sessions Judge at Karkardooma, Umar Khalid, accused in the Delhi riots conspiracy case and former JNU researcher, surrendered in Tihar Jail. Khalid took this step after the completion of the interim bail granted by the court to attend his sister's wedding.

Karkardooma-based Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai had released Khalid on bail from December 16 to December 29, 2025. Umar Khalid, who has been in jail since September 2020 in a major conspiracy case related to the 2020 Delhi riots, has consistently maintained that he is innocent of the charges.

Khalid had sought interim bail from the court from December 14 to December 29. Khalid's sister's wedding was scheduled for 27 December. While granting bail, the court made it clear that this relief was being given only for the marriage of his sister. The court had directed Khalid to grant bail on a personal bond of Rs 20,000 and one or two sureties of the same amount.
