State Bureau, Lucknow. The state government is not in favor of including cantonment areas in municipal corporations. The government wants that the separate identity and system of cantonment areas should remain the same.
Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna recently said in the meeting called by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Delhi in connection with the Union Budget that the cantonment areas are operated under a separate statutory system and are well-organized, clean and disciplined areas. In such a situation, including them in municipal corporations will give rise to unnecessary, impractical and administrative complications.
In the meeting, Khanna said that much of the land of Indian Railways is unusable or under illegal occupation. States are not allowed to use land in public interest. In such a situation, states should be given simple and practical permission to use it for public interest.
The Finance Minister also talked about establishing 'Integrated Arms and Ammunition Management System' in all the police units of the state. Said that in a big and sensitive state like UP, there is a need for scientific, safe and transparent management of arms and ammunition to make the police force effective and modernized.
Keeping in mind the issue of setting up a solar research center in the state, he also demanded assistance from the central government. The Finance Minister said that all the resources etc. of the state's armament manufacturing units are available, but due to lack of adequate work orders, their production capacity is not being fully utilised, which is affecting employment. In such a situation, policy intervention should be taken immediately so that appropriate work orders can be given.
