Jagran Correspondent, Muzaffarpur. Infrastructure Development Bihar: Schools, Anganwadi and other government buildings have become a major obstacle in the construction of Sahebganj-Manikpur four lane road project.
Due to these structures coming in the Right of Way (ROW), the pace of construction work is being affected. Regarding this, Raju Kumar, Project Director of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Chapra, has sent a detailed report to the District Magistrate.
The report states that further work is not possible without shifting the buildings falling in the prescribed alignment of the four lanes. NHAI has requested the concerned departments to shift these structures on priority basis, so that the project can be completed within the stipulated time.
According to NHAI, three government buildings in Paru block and two in Sahebganj block are falling under ROW. These include the health care center at Lalu Chhapra in Paru, the primary school at Jagdishpur Dharmu, the Anganwadi center at Anandpur Kharouni and the community center and primary school at Pakri Basarat in Sahebganj.
It is noteworthy that even before this, NHAI had sent correspondence expressing the need to shift 13 other structures, Anganwadi centre, religious place, school and health centre, which is currently under process.
Route and cost of the project
Sahebganj–Manikpur fourlane project is an important part of NH-139W. This road starts from Sahebganj in Muzaffarpur district and goes to Manikpur (Chhapra) in Saran district. Its total length is about 42 to 44 kilometers.
It is estimated that around Rs 800 to 900 crore will be spent on this project. This includes four-lane road construction as well as land acquisition, small bridges and structural works keeping in mind future traffic needs.
Why is this four lane important?
Completion of this four lane will give new impetus to the Patna-Bettiah corridor. This route will provide direct connectivity to West Champaran via Kesariya and Areraj through the proposed bridge on Gandak river. This will strengthen the connectivity of North Bihar and will also boost trade, agriculture and tourism.
However, unless the government structures coming in ROW are shifted, there will be a possibility that the pace of Sahebganj-Manikpur four lane construction will be affected.
