Jagran Correspondent, Baghpat: The joint team of Wildlife Crime Control Bureau Northern Region and Forest Department Baghpat has busted seven members of two gangs of poachers from Haryana. His two companions managed to escape. They are close relatives and friends of each other. They were running away after hunting wild animals from Yamuna Khadar of village Mavikalan and Sankrod near EPE (Eastern Peripheral Expressway). Five dead jackals, two grave badgers, two titular birds, one live and dead wild cat and a car, bike and equipment used for hunting have been recovered from them.
According to DFO Vinod Kumar, on Sunday morning, two separate teams under the leadership of Baghpat Forest Range Officer Shravan Kumar and Baraut Forest Range Officer Sunendra Singh surrounded the poachers. A team caught six poachers traveling in a car near the toll plaza at EPE. Similarly, another team arrested a poacher near Niwada bridge on Meerut-Baghpat-Sonipat highway. His two companions managed to escape.
The arrested accused include Sajan Nath and his brother Balinath resident of Kundli Border, Rohin Kumar, Arjun Nath, Khanna Nath resident of Pyau Manihari near Golden Theka Sonipat (Haryana) and Gulichand resident of village Rajpur police station fort Parikshitgarh (Meerut). The accused informed that they used to hunt wild animals for their food. Five dead jackals, two grave badgers, two titular birds, one live and dead cat, 31 screws, four spears and other tools were recovered from them. It is suspected that the accused hunt wild animals. Who all are involved in their gang is being ascertained.
We have been hunting animals since childhood. Gang leader Khanna Nath said that we have been hunting wild animals for our food since childhood. All the people caught are his relatives and relatives.
