State Bureau, Jagran, Dehradun. In view of the avalanche warning in the high Himalayan region of five districts of the state, the government has alerted the concerned district administration. Defense Geo-Information Research Institute (DGRE), Chandigarh has expressed the possibility of avalanche in these districts till 5 pm on Wednesday.
In the warning issued by DGRE, Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts have been kept in the orange category from the point of view of avalanche. Most avalanche routes in this range have deep and unstable snow.
Due to this, there is a possibility of natural avalanche. Such avalanches can reach the valley floor in medium sizes. In this situation, limited movement only through selected and relatively safe routes with utmost caution is considered appropriate.
Pithoragarh district has been kept in yellow category. In this range, unstable snow is found on some avalanche routes and there is a possibility of small-sized avalanches in limited areas.
In such a situation, movement in valley areas is possible with caution, but caution is necessary while going on snow covered slopes. Bageshwar district has been kept in the green category.
In general, the ice remains relatively stable, but at some places it can also be locally unstable. The possibility of avalanche in limited places due to external reasons or human activities cannot be ruled out.
In view of the avalanche warning, on the instructions of the Disaster Management Secretary, the State Emergency Operation Center has asked the DMs of the concerned districts to maintain continuous monitoring at the local level, ensure vigilance in sensitive areas and provide necessary information and advice to the general public in time. Also, instructions have been given to the system to remain on alert mode.
