Jagran Correspondent, Uttarkashi: Cold wave is increasing in the high altitude Gangotri National Park area including Gangotri Dham. Here, due to the temperature reaching minus at night, water has started freezing in rivers and springs as well as in drinking water sources and pipelines. People living in the Dham are facing problems due to freezing of drinking water lines.

Let us tell you that there has been snowfall on the high peaks of Gangotri National Park area including the main Gangotri Dham in Chardham, but snow has not fallen in the Dham till now. Despite this, due to increasing cold wave, the night temperature is reaching minus nine degrees Celsius.

Due to this, Gangotri Dham is experiencing severe cold in the morning and evening. Due to minus temperature, rivers, waterfalls and water sources in Gangotri Dham and Gangotri National Park area have started freezing. The gates of Gangotri National Park have been closed for winter, but forest personnel are continuing regular patrolling of the park area.

Last Tuesday and Wednesday, under the leadership of Park Forest Inspector Rajveer Singh Rawat, a team of forest personnel Deepak, Vikram Singh, Sampurnanand Bhatt, Anuj etc. carried out routine patrolling on the Gangotri-Gomukh trek, during which the team also found frozen water sources at five to seven places.

There is a risk of accident due to slipping on the track due to accumulation of water coming in the form of small water streams on the track. The biggest problem in the Dham is due to freezing of water in the drinking water lines.

Due to freezing of water, pipelines have become completely choked at many places, due to which local people, police and forest personnel are also facing problems and have to carry drinking water from Bhagirathi river. But despite this the park employees continue patrolling.

Forest Inspector Rajveer Singh Rawat said that due to increasing cold wave in the Dham, doing duty is becoming challenging. Told that the maximum temperature in Gangotri Dham has been recorded at -0.4 and the minimum temperature has been recorded at -9.9 degree Celsius.
