Devanshu Shekhar Mishra, Ramgarh. Compliance with the Supreme Court's order regarding vaccination of street dogs has started in Ramgarh district of Jharkhand.
The work of anti-rabies vaccination of 9 thousand 832 stray dogs has started in the district. However, time period is coming in the way. This task has been entrusted to Ranchi's NGO Animal Welfare Trust. The NGO has formally started it for the last three days from Gola block of Ramgarh district.
This NGO has been given time till 15th February to complete the target. Even the NGO director is worried about this.
He believes that if the government had extended the time period, it would have facilitated making the entire district rabies free. Presently it has been started in Bariatu Panchayat, Gola Block and Gola Bazaar of Gola block of the district.
Daily reports are also being provided by the NGO to the doctors of the Animal Husbandry Department along with geo tagged photographs. In the first phase, two and a half thousand vaccines have been made available at the government level. Through this, the work of vaccination has started.
In this, the NGO workers are also getting full support from the people of Gola block and they are getting a lot of convenience from this.
Along with a vehicle provided by the NGO, the team consists of four catchers and a paravet (vaccinator), who vaccinate the dogs. There are NGO workers who caught the dogs with the help of nets while the vaccinator has been provided by the department.
Earlier, vaccination work was done in 2021
Anti-rabies vaccination is done by the government every five years. Experts say that earlier the vaccination work was started in the year 2021, now it is being done this year i.e. 2026.
Experts also believe that it is necessary to run a campaign in this regard every year at the government level. Not only this, the government should also include a provision for separate allocation every year at the departmental level in its budget.
We have started this from Gola block of Ramgarh district for the last three days. With the help of local people we have worked at a fast pace. At present vaccination work has been done near Bariatu, Gola Bazar and Block. Had we got a little more time from the government, we would have been able to make the district 100 percent rabies free. At present we have been instructed to complete the target by 15th February.
