Jagran correspondent, Gorakhpur. A case of cyber fraud of Rs 1.89 lakh has come to light from a young man by luring him to invest and complete online tasks through Telegram. On the complaint of the victim, Gorakhnath police station has registered a case against unknown cyber criminals.

Rasoolpur resident Mohammad Zaid told the police that he had created a Telegram account with his mobile number. On December 22, 2025, a message came on his Telegram from an unknown number. The sender, posing as a representative of an investor company, offered to earn money in exchange for giving ratings on Google Maps.

Initially only rating task was completed

Initially Zaid only completed the rating task, in return for which he was shown a small amount of money. This increased his confidence. He was then added to a Telegram group where the admin and other members were sharing screenshots and charts of huge profits on investments.

The group claimed that a small investment would yield double-triple profits in a short time. In the first phase, three thousand rupees were deposited from Zaid through UPI. After this, the profit in the ID made in their name was shown as Rs 3,900, which made them feel that the scheme was genuine.

Gradually the cyber thugs started giving new tasks. Then the money was transferred to different accounts. Every time it was said that the entire amount along with profits would be returned as soon as the next task is completed. The victim continued sending money in this trust. On getting information about the fraud, the victim reached the cyber helpline and Gorakhnath police station and filed a complaint.
