Water Crisis Deepens In More Than 50 Villages Of Hapur, TDS Level Crosses 1500; Deaths Occur Every Year Due To Serious Diseases

Jagran correspondent, Hapur. On one hand, government health services are not reaching the villages, on the other hand there is also a lack of health awareness among the people.

People of more than 50 villages in Hapur district are forced to drink contaminated water. Due to which they are suffering from water borne diseases. Dozens of people die every year due to diseases caused by contaminated water.

The situation is such that neither information nor treatment is available to the villagers if they fall ill. By the time they reach doctors in rural cities or at CHCs, their condition has deteriorated. There is nothing medical, awareness and rescue in rural areas.

The outbreak of fever has been spreading rapidly in the district for the last two years. Many people died due to fever and diseases caused by drinking water. The highest death toll was reported in the villages on the banks of Ganga in Garhmukteshwar tehsil area. Whereas, dengue was confirmed in the least number of patients in this area.

On this the health department officials tried to find out the matter. The health department team had reached many villages including Shera Krishna Wali Lathira, Madhaiya, Kakather Ki Madhaiya, Nayabans, Gadhawali, Arakpur village of Garh area.

The health department team had found that the deaths of the said people were due to water-borne diseases. Typhoid was found in most of the people. This is a fever caused by intestinal infection. The main reason for this is considered to be contaminated drinking water.

After this the district administration had claimed to provide pure drinking water to every family. Instructions were given to every household of the government to speed up the water campaign. Despite this, there was not much improvement in the situation in rural areas.

Recently, the health department team again conducted the investigation campaign. During investigation, the team found that there were more complaints of typhoid, hepatitis and skin diseases among the people. Villagers are consuming contaminated water from shallow taps. There are many houses whose members are drinking contaminated water just 20 feet below.

Health department officials say that the water coming from underground in Garhmukteshwar, Simbhaoli, Dhaulana, Pilkhua, Hafizpur and Brajghat areas is contaminated. If this type of water is consumed continuously, people may suffer from serious diseases.

Water contaminated with chemicals released from industrial units

People of the area say that there are about seven big industrial units in Garhmukteshwar tehsil area and Sayana area. A raw drain is going from Fuldehra village. Which reaches Ganga through various villages of the tehsil area.

Chemical laden water from big industrial units located in the area has been flowing in this drain for about 25 years. Although treatment plants have been installed in all the plants, operators of many industrial units still secretly bring water containing chemicals in tankers and drain it into the same drain. Due to which the underground water of villages is getting contaminated day by day.

The drain passes through these villages

Originating from Kachcha Nala Nawada, Buxar, Bhowapur, Mastan Nagar, Khuldiya, VAT, Sahaspura, Khagoi, Haroda, Rajheti, Jamalpur, Razapur, Saloni, this drain reaches near the post in Syana area. From where this drain again passes through villages like Sehal, Chandner, Bahadurgarh, Bhasyana, Alamnagar, Paswada etc. and reaches Ganga at Pooth.

Apart from this, the groundwater of about 40 villages including Bharna, Dariyapur, Gandunangla, Nanglabad, Ratupura, Rajhera, Bhilampur, Bilhara, Kheda, Jakheda is getting contaminated. At present, about 1.5 lakh population living in these villages is forced to consume dirty water.

TDS level of water reached above 1500

An ideal standard has been set for water. The purity of water is measured in TDS (Total Dissolved Solids). According to experts, if the amount of TDS in one liter of water is less than 500 mg then this water is drinkable.

According to the villagers, the TDS of water coming out from underground in Garhmukteshwar area has reached above 1500 in many villages. Due to which people are falling victim to diseases by drinking this water.

Diseases like cancer are spread due to contaminated water

The villages through which the raw drain is going. Many diseases like hepatitis C, cancer, allergy, diarrhea, typhoid are prevalent in those villages. According to the villagers, people of many villages including Bharna had to sell their land to get their treatment.

According to villagers, around two hundred people have died so far due to contaminated water in these villages.

These diseases are caused by contaminated water

Investigation was done by visiting many villages in the area. In which diseases caused by contaminated water have been detected. After which the condition of water there is also being examined.
