Samvad Sutra, Harnatand. Due to severe shortage of resources in Primary Health Center Harnatand as well as arbitrariness and negligence of health workers, patients are not getting proper health services. The investigation of PHC has revealed serious flaws in the systems.
The situation in the PHC looked worrying at around 11 am on Monday morning. Instead of two employees, only one employee Ravi Kumar was present at the registration counter. Even at the vital counter, instead of two, only ANM Stuti Kumari was found working.
Medical Officer Dr. Rajendra Qazi was present in OPD. Health worker Dharmendra Manjhi along with drug storekeeper Rakesh Jaiswal and family welfare worker Ajay Kumar were present in the medicine distribution room.
ANM Nirmala Kumari, Rinku Kumari and Mamta Vidya Devi were found working in the delivery room. In the name of security arrangements, only guards Chandni Kumari and Babita Kumari were found deployed, while many other guards and health workers remained missing.
Here the BPMU office was seen empty while on the other hand the lock was seen hanging on the establishment office. Neither attendants nor data entry operators nor clerks and accountants were available on the spot.
When asked about the absent employees, it was told that PHC in-charge, BHM and BCM and other employees had gone to attend the DM's meeting held at the district headquarters.
Except typhoid test, all other tests and adequate medicines are available.
More than 50 patients are reaching PHC every day for treatment. Among these, the number of patients suffering from dog bite, cold, cough and fever is high. According to the medicine distributor, currently 133 types of medicines are said to be available in OPD, most of which include life-saving medicines.
Along with anti-rabies vaccine, cough medicines are also available in sufficient quantity. Apart from this, on an average half a dozen mothers reach PHC every day for delivery. Here, lab technicians Devendra Kumar Singh and Sudhir Yadav posted in the testing house told that many tests including CBC, blood sugar, HIV, VDRL, Hepatitis-B, dengue, malaria, pregnancy test, Trunot, sputum and hemoglobin are being conducted in the PHC. However, the facility for testing typhoid is not available at present.
Patients upset due to non-start of digital X-ray and dental services
Several months ago, a digital X-ray machine was made available on contract basis, but till now neither the dark room has been constructed nor arrangements for beds and other necessary machinery fittings have been made. This facility could not be started due to negligence of the sensor.
At the same time, dental equipment has been lying in the PHC gathering dust for years. Due to non-availability of dentist appointment, patients are not able to avail its benefits. Overall, due to disorganization, lack of resources and negligence of the staff in PHC Harnatand, common patients are struggling with better health services.
