Deepak, Outer Delhi. Looking at the dirty water-filled streets of Sharma Colony of Kirari, established about 35 years ago in outer Delhi, it does not seem that it is a part of the country's capital. Children are forced to leave the streets full of mud and filth to go to study.

You will be surprised to know that a large number of women in this colony have not been able to come out of their homes for a month, small children have missed school and play. Due to the presence of dangerous organisms in dirty water and fear of contracting skin diseases, people are not allowing small children to go out of the house.

After the news was published in Dainik Jagran on January 16, the administration has stopped the water coming towards the colony by dumping the waste from the landfill site in the main street (Municipal Corporation School Road) of Sharma Colony, but the situation in 25 streets of Sharma Colony still remains terrible. In most of these streets there is still one to two feet of water accumulated.

Water has been flowing into the colony for the last three months due to dumping of waste from the landfill site in the open ground near the colony, but in the last fortnight the problem has become severe. About 25 out of 30 streets are full of dirty water. As a result, people's lives are disrupted. People had to buy long boots for transportation. Due to the apathy of the administration, people have now started dumping debris outside their homes with their own money.

Jasvindra, who lives in Sharma Colony, said that due to waterlogging, he had to lock his house last week and shift to Indra Enclave because the studies of his daughter studying in class 10 was being affected due to waterlogging in the house and the street. Had to leave my house and take a house in Indra Enclave at a monthly rent of Rs 5500.

Bablu told that both his children study in LKG and nursery class. There is two feet of water accumulated in the street. After seeing a snake in the water, they stopped sending children to school. Housewife Saroj said that the foul smell has increased after dumping debris outside the house.

People say that due to the problem of waterlogging, more than three hundred people have migrated during the last one and a half year. Dampness has arrived in 70-80 percent of the houses.

The colony was settled in 1990

Farmland Colony was established in the year 1990. Gradually people also started settling. People started digging soil from the empty grounds along with the colony to use it in the construction of houses. In such a situation, a deep pit was formed here. On the other hand, due to construction of roads and other development works in the area, the level of colonies and houses has gone down. The drainage system of the colony became paralysed.

To provide relief to the people of Kirari area who are struggling with the rain water accumulated in the pits, the administration started dumping treated waste from the landfill site. Where there was less water logging, this problem did not arise, but where there was more water logging, as soon as the garbage was dumped, water filled the houses and streets. Same thing happened in Sharma Colony also.

Till date I have never seen such bad conditions. There is only water from the streets of the colony to the houses. For the past several days, our children have not been able to even leave their homes. - Arun Singh, Sharma Colony Due to waterlogging here, elderly people are not able to come out of their houses for a long time. The leaders and administration have ignored us. Even in such a situation no one is helping us. The situation here is worse than hell. - Makhan Lal, Sharma Colony
