Jagran correspondent, Bhagalpur. In Tehbalpur of Lodipur police station area, Muhammad Jalal, along with his father and brother, first beat his wife severely and then made her drink acid. Rukhsana Khatoon was admitted to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital (JLNMCH) in critical condition, from where she was referred to Patna for better treatment.

Rukhsana's 10-year-old daughter revealed the incident to the police. He told that his father Muhammad Jalal, uncle and grandfather together had committed the incident by assaulting his mother. However, Muhammad Jalal, who works as a clerk in the court, has termed the allegations leveled against him as baseless.

Rukhsana's mother accused of dowry harassment

Seeing Rukhsana struggling between life and death, her mother burst into tears. He told the police that his son-in-law, brother-in-law and father-in-law had put his daughter in this condition. Her in-laws have been ill-treating her daughter since her marriage for dowry.

After marriage, Rukhsana gave birth to three children. Which includes two daughters and one son. Due to the birth of daughters, Rukhsana and other in-laws including Dadam were very angry with Rukhsana. They were always pressurizing Rukhsana to sell her daughter.

When Rukhsana did not listen, they treated her like this and tried to kill her by making her drink acid. Police have started investigating the incident.

The incident of giving acid had also happened on January 1st.

On January 1, 2026, Poonam Devi, who ran a residential school in Prem Nagar, Jyoti Bihar Colony of Industrial Police Station area, was beaten and bathed in acid by her husband Dulal Poddar after a domestic dispute. After the incident, the husband himself committed suicide by swallowing acid. Wife Poonam is undergoing treatment in Patna for her injured condition.
