Know the main points and gist of the news at a glance
Religion Desk, New Delhi. Shiv Shankar, who lived on the deserted and cold Kailash mountain, was sometimes called a yogi and sometimes a recluse, but there came a time in his life when he left renunciation and entered into worldly life.
The festival of Mahashivratri is celebrated every year to celebrate this moment. After marriage with Mother Parvati, Bhole Baba started living in Kashi situated on the banks of Ganga. While there was no trace of life in Kailash, Kashi was exactly the opposite. It was moist, warm and fertile.
Why did Shiva marry?
In such a situation, the question arises that why did Mahayogi Shiva become a 'householder'? Why did he leave solitude and get married? The answer to this is not as simple as it seems. It was also told in the films-serials and Puranas made on Mahadev that Bholenath's son was needed to kill the demon Tarakasur and for this purpose the gods got him married, but the answer to this question is not limited to this only.
Regarding this, Pandit Deepak Pandey tells that the answer to why Mahadev got married is actually very deep. Even though it has been told in the Puranas and stories that Mahadev did not desire anything. He did not feel hungry or thirsty, but the people around him i.e. Srishti had their own needs and with the purpose of taking care of them and giving a special message to the people, he got married and came down from Kailash.
The symbol of compassion is the union of Shiva and Shakti.
To understand this, we have to relate it to ourselves. Even though you may not want wealth or power, there are many people around us who need all these things. In the same way, even though Lord Shiva himself was a Yogi, to fulfill the needs of the people, Bholenath came down from Kailash and adopted worldly ways. That is, it would not be wrong to say that Lord Shiva's marriage is a symbol of his 'sympathy' towards his children.
Ganesh and Kartikeya fulfill the needs
Not only Shiva's marriage, but his two sons also fulfill two of humanity's greatest needs. On one hand, Lord Ganesha – who has a big stomach, is a symbol of prosperity. He satisfies our hunger and hence he is close to Mother Annapurna.
On the other hand, Kartikeya, who has weapons in his hands, is the commander of the gods. He protects us and removes our fears, just like Goddess Durga, the embodiment of Shakti, protects us.
Shiva family teaches us how to live life
Overall, it can be said that the entire family of Bholenath teaches us how to live life. They tell us that to survive, both Lakshmi i.e. resources and Durga i.e. security are necessary. At the same time, Goddess Parvati made Shiva (who himself is desireless) aware of the hunger and needs of others.
