Buses don't stop, children forced to walk six kilometers to study.

Communication Assistant, Jalmana (Karnal). The patience of the students of Manchuri village ran out on Wednesday. While returning home after school, the children made their pain public by raising slogans against the government and the transport system. Children say that government and private bus operators do not stop the buses on time, due to which they have to walk about six kilometers every day to study.

This journey is not only tiring, but has also become a threat to both their safety and future. Students told that there is only secondary school in Manchuri village. To study for classes 10th, 11th and 12th, they have to go to Government Senior Secondary School, Shekhupura, which is about three kilometers away from the village. This means that it has become a compulsion for them to travel six kilometers on foot every day to and from school. Dense fog, severe cold, rain and scorching heat make this journey even more dangerous, especially for girl students.

Buses do not stop despite having stops

Children allege that government and private buses do not stop even after waiting for hours at the bus stop. Many times, blisters and even blood appear on the feet while walking. Sometimes even if a private bus stops, the behavior of the bus staff is disrespectful. Seeing the crowd, government buses also leave at high speed, due to which there is a risk of accident. The children said that if one is unwell, the journey becomes even more frightening.

Problems were raised even four years ago

The students also reminded that four years ago they had reached the Deputy Commissioner's office on foot, only then they had received assurance of increasing the number of teachers in the school, which is incomplete till date. Now again the situation is standing at the same place. The children are clearly demanding that either Manchuri School should be upgraded to class 12 or strict orders should be issued to stop Haryana Roadways and private buses compulsorily at school time.

Sarpanch of Manchuri village Jatindra Kashyap also supported the demand of the children. He told that even today many posts including that of the headmaster are vacant in the secondary school of the village. It is extremely dangerous for children to travel six kilometers on foot for higher classes. The Sarpanch questioned the government whether this voice of the children would be heard or would 'Beti Padhao' remain just a slogan.
