Vineet Kumar, Ghaziabad. The year 2025 brought mixed signals in terms of crime in Ghaziabad. Sustained action by the Commissionerate Police, anti-Romeo squads, pink booths, digital surveillance and verification campaigns led to a decline in crime against women, which strengthened the sense of security in the city, but on the other hand, the surge in cases of attempt to murder made it clear that small rivalries and disputes are still turning violent. Which is the biggest challenge for 2026.
To control crime and criminals, the Commissionerate Police has prepared a database of criminals who have gone to jail in the last 10 years. Apart from this, the police has also increased police patrolling at such places by identifying hotspots of snatching and vehicle theft to control crime.
Preparations for all-round crackdown on miscreants
Police have come up with a plan to curb vehicle theft and snatching. Under this, a database of 14 thousand criminals involved in seven types of crimes (robbery, robbery, snatching, embezzlement, theft, vehicle theft and cow slaughter) has been prepared in 10 years. Information was collected about how many of these criminals are on bail and how many are in jail.
Of these, there are eight thousand miscreants from Ghaziabad district and six thousand miscreants from neighboring cities. A list of both is being prepared and given police station wise, their verification and monitoring is being done. Vehicle theft and snatching will be stopped by installing CCTV cameras, regular checking and police patrolling at identified hotspots.
292 miscreants caught in 170 encounters in a year
In the year 2025, the police adopted a strict stance against criminals and killed three criminals in 170 encounters. In various police stations of the district, 212 criminals were injured by bullets in their legs in encounters with criminals involved in robbery, murder, snatching, theft and other serious crimes. Police arrested 292 miscreants.
The biggest change in the Commissionerate this year was the introduction of the beat system. Ghaziabad was divided into 2131 beats and 941 beat SIs and 1431 beat policemen were appointed. Now most of the services including passport, character and tenancy verification are provided by beat police officers.
Monitoring of local criminals and prompt resolution of complaints is being done at the beat level itself. Police officials claim that this has improved both crime control and police-public relations in the city in the district.
action to reduce crime
Police officials say that for effective control of robbery, murder, snatching, theft and other serious crimes, special campaigns were conducted regularly, in which strict actions like Goonda Act, Gangster and District Collector were taken against the criminals to control the crime.
Gangster action was taken against 255 criminals in 57 cases and property worth Rs 6.85 crore was seized by the Commissionerate Police throughout the year. The police declared 160 miscreants out of the district in the year 2025 as Badar.
Police also arrested nine miscreants when they were found in the border of declared district Badar district. The police force played an important role through manual input and effective use of technical resources such as CCTV surveillance, digital intelligence and activation of special teams formed.
Improvement in statistics on crime against women
In one year, to curb crimes against women in the district, the police formed anti-Romeo squads in which 59 policemen have been deployed. 105 policemen are deployed at the pink booth. Police say that crime against women has decreased by 39.19 percent in two years.
It is important for criminals to realize that they are under surveillance
Crime has decreased, but murder attempts have increased, indicating that the tendency towards violence is under pressure on the surface, not within. In 2026, the police will have to strengthen the preventive mechanism and not just take action. The most important thing is to reduce initial information about crime and response time. PRVs, beat officers, and police stations will have to work in an integrated crime alert system.
Regular police visibility is necessary at places like roads, markets, and snatching zones. Criminals must feel that they are under surveillance. Dossier update, behavior pattern, bail status, location history, and network mapping of old criminals registered in police stations should be compulsorily prepared.
This work should move beyond paper and be brought to digital dashboard. So that Cheetah, Beat, and Night Patrolling teams get live inputs. Most of the cases of attempt to murder are related to personal rivalry, land dispute, rent dispute and impulsive violence. For this, the police will have to adopt measures like community mediation, beat level counselling, verification campaigns and pre-conflict intervention.
Crime against women in the year 2025
Situation of crime in last two years
The checking teams should also be given basic life support training along with body worn cameras, bulletproof jackets and self-defense equipment. In the end, fear of the law is necessary, but the trust of the police is an even bigger protective shield. If enforcement, verification, digital intelligence and pre-conflict intervention are implemented together, Ghaziabad can become a safe and crime-controlled model district in 2026.
