Vikas Gusain, Jagran Dehradun: Uttarakhand has registered remarkable progress in the field of industrial development in the 25 years since the formation of the state. While in the year 2000-2001 there were only 14,163 thousand industries in the state, today this number has increased to 93,887. This includes large industries and micro, small and medium (MSME) units.
More than Rs 55.58 thousand crore has been invested in these industries, which has provided direct employment to more than five lakh 91 thousand persons. Apart from this, agreements worth more than Rs 1 lakh crore have been signed in the Global Investors Conference held last year. Uttarakhand is celebrating its silver jubilee this year.
This small hill state has completed 25 years. Although tourism and pilgrimage have been a major source of economy in Uttarakhand, which has adverse geographical conditions, it is rapidly establishing its identity in the industrial world as well.
This can be gauged from the fact that industrial agreements worth more than Rs 3.56 lakh crore were signed in the Global Investors Conference held last year. Industrial groups from India and abroad showed interest in this.
Of these, agreements worth Rs 1 lakh crore have now come on the ground. Most of these agreements are in the manufacturing sector. Besides, work is also being done on ground in energy, alternative energy, tourism, education, industry, health, pharma, AYUSH, horticulture and service sectors.

Self-employment at home will stop migration
The establishment of green industries in the state in the service sector like renewable energy, herbal and aromatics, horticulture and floriculture, tourism, river rafting, adventure, pilgrimage will not only strengthen the environmental protection of Uttarakhand in the coming times, but will also prove helpful in preventing migration from the mountains.
The youth will get employment opportunities near their homes. With the establishment of service sector industrialists in famous religious places like Malari, Harshil, Pithoragarh, Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamunotri, thousands of youth are getting the opportunity to engage in home-based employment and self-employment.
Industrial Corridor is an important step towards industrial development.
To give new impetus to industrial development in Uttarakhand, an important initiative has been taken by the state government towards the establishment of industrial corridor. In this sequence, land has been identified in Khurpiya Farm area of Udham Singh Nagar district.
The proposed industrial corridor is expected to boost investment in the state as well as create new employment opportunities. The government aims to develop modern industrial infrastructure through this industrial corridor, thereby strengthening the manufacturing, processing and service sectors.
Khurpiya Farm area has been selected keeping in mind the geographical location, transportation facilities and available land. This will provide better connectivity to the industries with road, rail and other infrastructure facilities.
Government is emphasizing on skill development
The government is working rapidly in this direction to provide skilled workers to the industries. To connect the youth in the state with skill development, Devbhoomi Institute of Entrepreneurship is connecting students pursuing higher education with innovation.
All ITI and Polytechnic students are being given special training for skill development. ITI syllabus is being prepared as per the needs of the industries so that the industries get skilled and efficient manpower.
