Jagran correspondent, New Delhi. Amid tight security arrangements made by Delhi Police regarding the Republic Day celebrations, the Crime Branch has arrested a woman named Asima Begum on suspicion of spying for the country.
To avoid police investigation, this woman used to roam around in different embassies and high security areas by putting fake number plate of a foreign embassy in her Innova car. Two more fake number plates of foreign embassies have been recovered from his car. The accused woman has been identified as Asma Begum of Guwahati, Assam.
At the same time, during interrogation, he claimed that he had worked as a consultant in a foreign embassy for one year in 2023-24. As Republic Day was nearing, the security agencies were alerted by the woman's arrest and she is being interrogated whether she is involved in anti-national activities on Republic Day by coming into contact with other foreign countries including Pakistan.
According to Deputy Commissioner Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, the team had received information that a woman often visits the embassies of different countries in New Delhi and also uses a car with a fake number plate of an embassy.
On receiving the information, a team was formed under the supervision of ACP Pankaj Arora and the leadership of Inspector Dalip Kumar. The team laid a trap in B Block, Vasant Vihar. The woman was caught at around 3.10 pm.
At the same time, during interrogation she could not show the ownership documents of the vehicle. Initially she described herself as a representative of a foreign embassy, but could not tell the name of that embassy. When strictly interrogated, she told that she was using a fake number plate of a foreign embassy on the vehicle. He also told that he had purchased that Innova car from a foreign embassy in November 2024.
The embassy had lodged a complaint against him at Chanakya Puri police station for not registering the vehicle in his name. Therefore, he removed the number plates of that embassy and got fake number plates made, so that he could easily go to different embassies and avoid checking by policemen at different places.
Said to be All-India Secretary of political party for 4 years
The woman claimed that she was the All-India Secretary of a political party for the last four years. He also claimed that he had worked as a consultant in a foreign embassy for a year in 2023-24 and was paid Rs 1.5 lakh every month.
Apart from this, she told that she used to work as a sports guide in the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya, for which she got paid. After his arrest, he was sent to police custody for six days. His mobile phone has been confiscated.
