Astrologer Pandit KC Pandey, President of the Indian Astrological Rituals Mahasabha, said that the time 16 hours before and 16 hours after the Sun's Sankranti time is considered auspicious. Similarly, according to Nirnay Sindhu, when Sankranti occurs before sunset, then in Ubhayamat it is already the Punya Kaal.
According to the scriptures about Makar Sankranti, Makar Sankranti occurs on the day when the Sun leaves Sagittarius and enters Capricorn. On the date of 14th January 2026, Krishna Paksha Ekadashi, with Sarvarthasiddhi Yoga and Amritsiddhi auspicious Yoga, the Sun whose holy time will be especially valid from 8:39 am.
Special importance of bathing in Ganga and donation
Mahasabha scholars said that due to Shattila Ekadashi, Anuradha Nakshatra, Makar Sankranti on Wednesday, 14 January 2026, there is a Sankranti called Mandakini, which will be even more auspicious. In which bathing and donating will be extremely beneficial. Bathing in Ganga and charity have special significance on this day.
In Padmapuran, it has been described as best to take bath in the morning on the day of Makar Sankranti. It is told in Skanda Purana and Kalika Purana that the person who donates sesame seeds and things made of sesame seeds, clothes, gold to Brahmins, lights sesame oil lamp in Shiva temple, performs havan with sesame seeds, on the day of Sun's Uttarayan i.e. Makar Sankranti, all his wishes are fulfilled and all his sins are eradicated.
Auspicious marital auspicious work starts from 3rd February
On the day of Makar Sankranti, 60,000 sons of King Sagar attained salvation due to the efforts of King Bhagiratha. Therefore, there is a special tradition of bathing in Gangasagar on this day. Taking bath on this day gives results of ten Ashwamedha Yagya and donation of one thousand cows. Even after the end of Kharmas on 14 January, due to Venus remaining set till 31 January 2026, the auspicious auspicious work for marriage will start from 3 February.
