Anup Kumar Singh, New Delhi. Out of more than 95 thousand sanctioned posts in all the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) of the country, 19,561 posts are vacant for a long time. These include both faculty and non-faculty posts. According to Union Health Ministry data, 2,356 faculty (academic) posts and 17,205 non-faculty (non-academic) posts are vacant in all 20 AIIMS.
Timely appointment is still a big challenge
The large number of vacancies of faculty and non-faculty posts in the country's largest government health institutions is having a cascading effect on health and patient services, medical education and hospital administration. This situation shows that with the increase in the number of AIIMS across the country, adequate and timely appointment of human resources still remains a big challenge.
Delhi AIIMS is the country's leading referral center.
The highest number of vacancies among all AIIMS institutes is at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. According to the information received, a total of 2,988 posts are vacant here, out of which 446 faculty posts are vacant against 1306 and 2,542 non-faculty posts are vacant against 13,911. Delhi AIIMS is the major referral center of the country, where serious patients not only from the capital but from all over the country come for treatment.
In such a situation, the large number of vacant posts here is a sign of additional pressure on health services. All India Institute of Medical Sciences Rishikesh is at second place in terms of vacancies. A total of 1,270 posts are vacant here. These include 126 faculty and 1,144 non-faculty posts.
Apart from this, 1,218 posts (86 faculty, 1,132 non-faculty) are vacant in All India Institute of Medical Sciences Patna, 1,174 posts (105 faculty, 1,069 non-faculty) in All India Institute of Medical Sciences Raipur and 1,125 posts (99 faculty, 1,026 non-faculty) are vacant in All India Institute of Medical Sciences Bhubaneswar.
Vacant posts of professor, nursing and technical staff
The vacant faculty posts include academic positions like Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor. Non-faculty includes nursing staff, technical staff, administrative personnel and other support positions. Experts say that the shortage of faculty is impacting medical education and research work, while the shortage of non-faculty posts is directly impacting hospital operations and patient services.
