State Bureau, Shimla. The state government has taken another major decision for qualitative improvement in education in Himachal Pradesh. Colleges with less than 100 students will be merged. These will be merged with the colleges that will be there. Orders have been issued to close 39 schools in which the enrollment of students is zero and shift the staff to other schools. Whereas the proposal for merger of colleges will be prepared and sent to the cabinet for approval. This decision was taken in a meeting held at the State Secretariat on Thursday under the chairmanship of Education Minister Rohit Thakur. Just yesterday, the department had merged 39 boys and girls schools and converted them into co-educational institutions. Now major changes are also being made in the colleges to ensure better utilization of infrastructure and teaching staff.
Transport allowance will be given to school students
The government has taken another big decision for the convenience of the students. Under this, transport allowance will be provided to students who travel a distance of more than two kilometers.
The Education Minister directed the officials of the department to prepare a format for the merger of non-CBSE schools. Some more schools will be merged in the month of March. The Education Minister said that this decision of the government will not have any adverse impact on professional courses, recruitment of teachers or services of the current employees. He said that no employee will lose his job as a result of these reforms.
Minimum age limit of 23 years removed for teacher recruitment
The minimum age limit of 23 years for teacher recruitment for CBSE affiliated government schools has been abolished. Many children have completed their degree before this, and become eligible for teacher recruitment. He was becoming ineligible for the posts of Mathematics and English subjects advertised by the department. This matter was raised before the government. After which the government has given this relief.
Less than 100 students in 21 colleges
According to the Education Department, there are five colleges in the state which have less than 40 students, while in 16 colleges less than 100 students are studying.

19 colleges were denotified in 2023
In March 2023, the government had also closed 17 degree and two Sanskrit colleges which were opened after April 1, 2022 during the BJP government. 19 out of 24 colleges opened in 2022 were denotified.
