Jagran correspondent, Bhadohi. The electricity bill relief scheme will end on February 28. If we look at the progress of two months and 23 days i.e. 84 days, till now only 40826 consumers have got themselves registered while payment of approximately Rs 33 crore has been made.

128355 consumers are coming under the ambit of benefit from the scheme in the district. If seen from the departmental point of view, this would be considered very poor progress. Whereas in this relief scheme, Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation had made the provision of maximum benefit.

After the highly profitable first phase from December 1 to 31 and disappointing performance in the second phase from January 1 to 31, the third phase is also proving to be a laggard in terms of progress.

In the first phase, there was a provision of 25 percent discount on the basic dues with 100 percent surcharge to the consumers, in the second phase there was a provision of 20 percent discount on the basic dues with 100 percent surcharge.

Despite this, 75 percent consumers remained deprived of benefits. In the third and final phase, there is a provision of 15 percent discount on the basic dues along with 100 percent surcharge. Despite this, consumers are not enthusiastic about the scheme.

Departmental officials claim that an awareness campaign is being run to benefit more and more consumers. Junior Engineers are motivating people to register.

There are about 2.49 lakh electricity consumers in the district. 1.28 lakh consumers of the district are coming under the ambit of benefit from the scheme. The department owes Rs 867.10 crore to these consumers.

In case of registration and payment, Rs 467.33 crore would have been waived off as surcharge. That means the surcharge is more than 50 percent of the total outstanding amount.

Apart from this, this time there was a good provision of rebate on the principal amount also but the scheme is about to end whereas only Rs 33 crore has been paid.

You can avail benefits till 28th February

All efforts were made at the departmental level to benefit maximum consumers from the scheme. Pamphlets were distributed. Bill details were made available to the consumers by going door to door. The announcement was made. Despite this, 40826 consumers were benefited. The number of never paid consumers is 36536. 7326 consumers have availed benefits under the scheme. Never paid consumers have paid around Rs 7 crore. The scheme will run till 28 February. Consumers have an opportunity during this period also. -Radheshyam, Superintending Engineer Electricity Board Bhadohi.
