A symbolic picture has been placed in it.

Correspondent, Darbhanga. The state government often makes announcements to provide facilities to farmers for farming. While the central government talks about doubling the income of farmers, the slogan of the state government is – water to every field.

But improving the irrigation system in the fields is proving to be just a show off. The reason is that out of total 88 government surface irrigation schemes in the district, 84 have been stalled for decades. That means only four of these government surface irrigation schemes are in working condition.

Whereas the government had decided to get all these repaired and hand them over to the Gram Panchayat Raj. People were also excited by this announcement. But due to departmental apathy, the condition of these tube wells is gradually worsening.

According to the information received by Pradeep Kumar Choudhary, District President of Human Rights Protection Foundation, under the Right to Information Act, four sub-irrigation schemes are in operation in Jariso of Benipur block as well as in Sirhuli of Tumaul Singhwada block of Ghanshyampur block and Kathra village of Tardih block.

Apart from these, tube wells installed decades ago under the scheme are closed in 84 villages including Chataria of Nehalpur Panchayat, Simra of Bahadurpur block, Baghaul of Bahedi, Mahinam of Benipur and Sajjanpura, Pokharam of Biraul.

Most of them have collapsed and become ruins. Where anti-social elements gather as soon as the evening falls. Therefore, most of these spring irrigation schemes have been installed on the banks of the river, away from the population.

At some places, due to technical glitches in electricity, collapse of drains and buildings, and at some places theft of machines, the scheme is almost dead. Let us tell you that if water for irrigation is provided to the farmers through these schemes, then the expenditure per bag will be only two to three rupees.

Instead of understanding this, the government is busy in bringing expensive and expensive irrigation schemes. If sources are to be believed, the government has also transferred money to the account of Minor Irrigation Division Darbhanga for the maintenance of irrigation schemes. But due to the careless policy of the department, the existence of 84 surface irrigation schemes is under serious threat.

Renovation and construction work is being done at the departmental level to make 46 of the bad storm surge irrigation schemes operational.
