State Bureau, Lucknow. The structure of electricity consumers in the state is quite unbalanced. About 87 percent of the total consumers are domestic consumers, while the number of industrial consumers is only one percent. For this reason, Uttar Pradesh lags behind in terms of revenue balance compared to other states. However, the power sector has improved over the years and losses have declined significantly.

According to Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Consumers Council, there are a total of 3,72,01,097 electricity consumers in the state. Of these, 3,24,74,855 are domestic consumers (about 87 percent). The number of commercial consumers is 23,91,786 (about six percent). Industrial consumers are 2,15,033 (about one percent). Agricultural consumers are 15,96,308 (about four percent).

Number of temporary connections less than one percent

Government consumers are 4,27,568 (about one percent). Whereas the number of bulk supply and temporary connections is approximately 95,547, which is less than one percent. Major part of the revenue in the state comes from domestic consumers, while the number of industrial consumers is very less. In other states, the revenue balance remains better due to higher share of industrial consumers.
