'8th Pay Commission has come into effect from January 1, 2026', will you get increased salary and pension from this day? But there can be big loss

New Delhi. Questions are constantly being raised among central employees and pensioners regarding the Eighth Pay Commission as to when it will be implemented and when will the increased salary-pension (8th pay commission salary hike 2026) come into their accounts.

Regarding this, Dr. Manjeet Singh Patel, National President of All India NPS Employees Federation, has clearly said that the Eighth Pay Commission will be considered effective from January 1, 2026, whether the report comes at the end of 2026 or in 2027. In such a situation, the discussion once again intensified as to when will the increased salary and pension come?

Delay in report, questions on government

According to Dr. Patel, the commission was announced on January 15, 2025, but the pace of work is like a 'tortoise's pace'. As of now only the processes like office setup and appointment of director are going on.

The commission has sought suggestions through 18 questions till March 16, but employees say that direct questions were not asked on real issues like fitment factor, minimum wage, family and unit (8th pay commission family unit).

Demand for report in 200 days

Dr. Patel has demanded that the Commission be directed to submit the report within 200 days, so that the government can make provision for arrears and salary increase in the budget of February 2027. If there is a delay, the matter may drag on till 2028.

When will I get increased salary and pension?

Dr. Patel says that the applicable date will be January 1, 2026, but if the report comes late then only arrears of Basic and DA will be received. Arrears of TA, HRA and other allowances (8th pay commission DA-HRA Hike) are not received, due to which employees may suffer loss of lakhs.

Fitment Factor and Minimum Wage

Dr. Patel says that the minimum salary should not be less than Rs 50 thousand. They are demanding to increase the family unit from 3 to 5, due to which the fitment factor can go above 2.6 (8th pay commission Fitment Factor).

Demand on pension and OPS

He also reiterated the demand for giving 50% guaranteed pension to those who have completed 20 years of service and restoration of the Old Pension Scheme.

Overall, he has made it clear that the employees expect a salary increase from January 1, 2026, but the real benefit will be available only if the Commission submits the report on time and the government takes a speedy decision.
